As sisters, we often reminisce together about our childhood, the ups and downs of growing up in a large family, and the lessons learned along the way. We grew up in a loving home, filled with chaos, laughter and of course, good food. It’s the food, and the rituals surrounding that food, that inspired us nearly twenty years ago to create a space for all our family’s favorite recipes. And thus, favfamilyrecipes.com was born. It’s been one of our greatest joys to share our family’s recipes with our readers.

Without question, our fondest memories of our home growing up was our mother’s home cooked meals. She strived daily to gather us together for dinner around the table, no matter how busy she was or how hectic our schedules were. These casual meals together, our mom’s treasured recipes, and her commitment to family time, were absolutely everything to us. Whether it was a simple supper of chili and hamburgers (Dad’s favorite), or a more elaborate Sunday roast dinner, she served up these meals with love.

Of course, we loved the rare treat of going out to eat as well. Growing up in a family of seven, it wasn’t often that we could all go out to dinner as a family, but when we did, we knew it was a special treat. Those meals were usually to celebrate a birthday, an accomplishment at school, or another special occasion. And we savored those outings together almost as much as the food itself.

As we got older, going out to dinners became more of a common practice, and we all had our favorites! Tableside guacamole from our favorite Mexican restaurant, pulled pork salad from the hottest lunch spot in town, even the famous seasonal fast-food shakes, we wanted them all!  We knew one day we would want to combine the best of both worlds: our favorite restaurant recipes with the comfort of eating dinner at home, in our cozy kitchen. That’s where our love of copycat recipes began.

Now as grown adults with our own families, creating copycat recipes has become a fun hobby for us. We love to try out new restaurants, sample various cuisines, then recreate the dishes in our own kitchens. It’s such a fun challenge to try to match a restaurant recipe at home. There’s definitely some trial and error involved, but mostly it’s a satisfying experience that helps us to be able to enjoy our favorites without spending an arm and a leg to take the family out all the time.

Over the years, we have tested and perfected dozens and dozens of recipes from restaurants all over the country. We’ve learned to be observant when dining out, paying close attention to how the food is prepared and presented. Our husbands and families know that dining out means us asking our servers all sorts of questions about the various dishes, and thankfully our families, and the servers, are always patient with us! Coming home to create a recipe is always an exciting task; we experiment with different herbs and spices, taste test along the way (an added bonus!) and get precious feedback from our guinea pigs, aka our families and friends. What we’ve created are copycat recipes that look, smell and taste exactly like our restaurant favorites (even better in many cases!). And we can’t wait to share them with our beloved readers and their families.
